{"id":7438,"date":"2009-10-03T22:53:09","date_gmt":"2009-10-04T05:53:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=7438"},"modified":"2009-10-03T22:53:09","modified_gmt":"2009-10-04T05:53:09","slug":"post-trek-roddenberry-shows-coming-to-dvd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2009\/10\/post-trek-roddenberry-shows-coming-to-dvd\/","title":{"rendered":"Post-Trek Roddenberry Shows Coming To DVD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two shows that <strong>Gene Roddenberry<\/strong> developed after <em>Star Trek <\/em>will be offered on DVD beginning next Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>After <em>Star Trek<\/em> was canceled, Roddenberry developed <em>Genesis II<\/em> and <em>Planet Earth<\/em>. 1973&#8217;s <em>Genesis II <\/em>was about a NASA scientist (Dylan Hunt, played by <strong>Alex Cord<\/strong>,) who wakes up in a post-apocalyptic Earth in 2133 due to a suspended animation failure. He is discovered by the &#8220;PAX&#8221; team who are some of the last remaining scientists left in the world.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->CBS aired the pilot, but did not pick up the series, opting instead to try a television version of <em>Planet of the Apes<\/em>, which was canceled after only thirteen episodes.<\/p>\n<p>Undeterred, Roddenberry and Warner Bros. reworked <em>Genesis II<\/em> into a new show, <em>Planet Earth<\/em>. Dylan Hunt, now played by<strong> John Saxon<\/strong>, became the leader of the PAX team, who did surveys in the post-apocalyptic world. In the pilot, PAX discovers a society run entirely by women.<\/p>\n<p>Both <em>Genesis II<\/em> and <em>Planet Earth<\/em> are available as a set and can pre-ordered from the Warner Bros. shop now.
