{"id":7766,"date":"2009-11-13T15:03:46","date_gmt":"2009-11-13T23:03:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=7766"},"modified":"2009-11-13T15:03:46","modified_gmt":"2009-11-13T23:03:46","slug":"star-trek-online-and-the-bridge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2009\/11\/star-trek-online-and-the-bridge\/","title":{"rendered":"Star Trek: Online And The Bridge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When the developers at Cryptic Studios were recreating the <em>Star Tre<\/em>k universe, they initially left out one of the most famous <em>Star Trek<\/em> sets, the starship bridge.<\/p>\n<p><em>Star Trek: Online Executive<\/em> Producer <strong>Craig Zinkievich<\/strong> explained why this was the case. &#8220;We didn&#8217;t want to have interiors at launch,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We thought it was just a little bit too much.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->But Zinkievich realized that it might be a better idea to rethink at least part of that attitude. &#8220;We really wanted to make sure we delivered a really deep experience,&#8221; he said, &#8220;but your bridge not being in the game, it really felt like a hole in the game, and it was just something that we had to put in.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now, players can choose from approximately twenty different bridges, which will focus as social hubs where gamers can &#8220;hang out online&#8221; with their bridge officers and other captains.<\/p>\n<p><em>Star Trek: Online <\/em>is &#8220;familiar, but it&#8217;s new,&#8221; said Zinkievich. &#8220;I think that&#8217;s what keeps us from stepping on the hardcore Trekkies&#8217; toes.
