{"id":7862,"date":"2009-11-24T15:22:33","date_gmt":"2009-11-24T23:22:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=7862"},"modified":"2009-11-24T15:22:33","modified_gmt":"2009-11-24T23:22:33","slug":"jumpcon-founder-avoids-jail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2009\/11\/jumpcon-founder-avoids-jail\/","title":{"rendered":"JumpCon Founder Avoids Jail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday, JumpCon Founder <strong>Shane Senter<\/strong> was sentenced to probation and ordered to pay restitution to victims of his failed JumpCon conventions.<\/p>\n<p>Senter could have been looking at up to seven years in prison and a $4,000 fine for each of two counts of felony theft in addition to another two years of prison time and a $2,000 fine for the other two misdemeanor charges of deceptive business practices.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Instead, Senter, who still owes millions of dollars, received fourteen years of probation along with four years of suspended jail time, and must pay $33,800 in restitution.<\/p>\n<p>The restitution money will be split amongst the fifty-one people who have filed complaints with New Hampshire&#8217;s Attorney General.<\/p>\n<p>Many victims didn&#8217;t appear at the hearings, including <strong>Edward James Olmos<\/strong> (<em>Battlestar Galactica<\/em>). Olmos and co-star <strong>Mary McDonnell<\/strong> were supposed to be the headliners at one of the JumpCon conventions.
