{"id":7895,"date":"2009-12-02T15:10:07","date_gmt":"2009-12-02T23:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=7895"},"modified":"2009-12-02T15:10:07","modified_gmt":"2009-12-02T23:10:07","slug":"rod-roddenberry-launches-oceans-fundraiser","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2009\/12\/rod-roddenberry-launches-oceans-fundraiser\/","title":{"rendered":"Rod Roddenberry Launches Oceans Fundraiser"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Eugene &#8220;Rod&#8221; Roddenberry<\/strong>, son of <em>Star Trek<\/em> creator <strong>Gene Roddenberry<\/strong>, has announced the $100,000 Challenge for the Oceans&#8221; campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The $100,000 Challenge for the Oceans is a holiday fundraiser for the San Diego Oceans Foundation, in which residents can donate and have their donations matched by Roddenberry.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-7898\" title=\"120209RodRoddenberry\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/120209RodRoddenberry2.gif\" alt=\"120209RodRoddenberry\" width=\"84\" height=\"100\" \/>Roddenberry wants five hundred people to contribute $20 each, which he will match dollar for dollar, adding up to $20,000 total, from both the residents and from Roddenberry.<\/p>\n<p>Environmentally conscious companies have been asked to donate too. Roddenberry would like eight corporations to each donate $10,000 and adding that to the $20,000 from Roddenberry and individuals, will add up to $100,000.<\/p>\n<p>Roddenberry is a volunteer with the San Diego Oceans Foundation as a &#8220;Ocean in Motion Marine Science Education and Snorkeling Program&#8221; volunteer.
