{"id":8169,"date":"2010-01-14T19:02:43","date_gmt":"2010-01-15T03:02:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=8169"},"modified":"2010-01-14T19:02:43","modified_gmt":"2010-01-15T03:02:43","slug":"stewart-shakespeare-yes-reality-tv-no","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2010\/01\/stewart-shakespeare-yes-reality-tv-no\/","title":{"rendered":"Stewart: Shakespeare Yes-Reality TV No"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Star Trek: The Next Generation<\/em>&#8216;s <strong>Patrick Stewart<\/strong> is no fan of reality shows.<\/p>\n<p>Stewart made his views on the popular television shows known while with the Television Critics Association tour to promote several of his upcoming projects, <em>Macbeth<\/em> and Hamlet, that will air on the PBS series <em>Great Performances<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8170\" title=\"Stewart031108\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Stewart031108.gif\" alt=\"Stewart031108\" width=\"150\" height=\"200\" \/>&#8220;There are aspects of popular contemporary entertainment, and I&#8217;m thinking here particularly of the huge influx of reality shows, that I find deeply dismaying and discouraging,&#8221; said the former Captain Picard. &#8220;In fact, watching one on BBC, BBC? Yes. I watched about twenty-five minutes of it, and I was alone, and I thought to myself, &#8216;This would be a really good time to die&#8230;because I wouldn&#8217;t mind leaving this world right at this moment while I&#8217;m watching this particular reality show.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To add insult to injury, the show was &#8220;the highest-rated show on British television,&#8221; said Stewart. &#8220;So I struggle with that a bit, yeah.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Stewart wouldn&#8217;t give the name of the show. &#8220;Yes, of course, I&#8217;m going to tell you that,&#8221; he said sarcastically. &#8220;I have to go back to England next week.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Star Trek: The Next Generation&#8216;s Patrick Stewart is no fan of reality shows.
