William Shatner<\/b> (James T. Kirk) continues to prove he’s got his finger on the pulse of the modern world — he’s just been cast as the lead in Shit My Dad Says<\/i>, the first sitcom based on a Twitter phenomenon.<\/p>\n

Shit My Dad Says<\/A> was launched in August of last year by Justin Halpern<\/b>, a 29-year old writer for a comedy site who had just moved back in with his parents. He decided to start posting the often bizarre (and profane) comments made by his 73-year old father, and quickly attracted over a million followers. The Twitter feed already landed Halpern a book deal, in addition to an offer to write a TV pilot.<\/p>\n Halpern wrote the script for the pilot together with Patrick Schumacker<\/b>, while it will be executive produced by David Kohan<\/b> and Max Mutchnick<\/b>, the creators of Will & Grace<\/i>. The script was developed at CBS, who agreed to finance a pilot episode if the creators were able to find a famous star for the lead role — which they’ve now clearly succeeded in. If the pilot turns into an actual series, CBS is likely to change the title into something more family-friendly.<\/p>\n Shatner’s most recent television role was that of Denny Crane on Boston Legal<\/i>, which won him an Emmy award as well as landing him four nominations.
