Leonard Nimoy<\/strong> will be visiting Vulcan, a small Alberta town which has built a small tourist industry based on Star Trek<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Town of Vulcan had the name first, but Star Trek<\/em> made that name famous when the show became popular. A shrewd decision was made by Vulcan to capitalize on that famous name by the small town with a population of nineteen-hundred residents, and now the town will have a personal visit from Nimoy, the most famous Vulcan of all.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Nimoy, who turned seventy-nine today, will be in Vulcan for one day, April 23, ahead of his appearance at the Alberta Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo. “This is the culmination of how many years of dreaming and aspirations for the community,” said Dayna Dickens<\/strong>, tourism coordinator for Vulcan. “It’s a bit surreal.”<\/p>\n

Last year, Nimoy supported Vulcan it its bid to host the world premiere of Star Trek XI<\/em>. Although the bid was rejected, Paramount held an advanced screening in Calgary, attended by some of the residents of Vulcan.<\/p>\n

Events scheduled for Nimoy’s appearance include a parade in his honor, an unveiling of a bust of Nimoy for the town’s center, and a casting of Nimoy’s handprint in the “live long and prosper pose.” In addition,\u00a0 Nimoy will lend the town memorabilia from his time on Star Trek<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
