{"id":8807,"date":"2010-04-07T17:19:06","date_gmt":"2010-04-08T00:19:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=8807"},"modified":"2010-04-07T17:19:06","modified_gmt":"2010-04-08T00:19:06","slug":"worf-and-the-international-space-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2010\/04\/worf-and-the-international-space-station\/","title":{"rendered":"Worf And The International Space Station"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Amongst the items delivered by the Discovery space shuttle to the International Space Station earlier today, was a patch with a <em>Star Trek <\/em>connection.<\/p>\n<p>The acronym for the NASA patch for the Window Observational Research Facility, a science equipment rack that will enable astronaut-tended and remote-controlled Earth-observation experiments, is the same as the name of Lt. Commander Worf, the Klingon seen on <em>Star Trek: The Next Generation <\/em>and<em> Star Trek: Deep Space Nine<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/WorfPatch040710.gif\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8808\" title=\"WorfPatch040710\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/WorfPatch040710.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a>When the patch&#8217;s creator, <strong>Tony Boatright<\/strong>, realized this, he decided to use Worf&#8217;s Klingon language on the patch, after first checking with <strong>Rick Berman<\/strong>&#8216;s office to make sure that he &#8220;wouldn&#8217;t violate any <em>Star Trek<\/em> canon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Getting the go-ahead, the next task was to decide what to write in Klingon. &#8220;We agreed on the Klingon Klinshai, or Mandel, script that had appeared in The U.S.S.
