Morrow Public Outreach Award yesterday, Nimoy shared his thoughts on space exploration, and a famous <strong>Star Trek<\/strong> fan who just happens to run the country.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/LeonardNimoy01222010.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8901\" title=\"LeonardNimoy01222010\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/LeonardNimoy01222010.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>With the shuttle program coming to an end, Nimoy acknowledges that the end of the shuttle era will be sad for fans of space exploration. &#8220;It&#8217;s just beginning to sink in that the space shuttle era is ending,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I think people will be grieving. I will. I&#8217;ll be sad to see it go. It&#8217;s been a very important part of our image of NASA and space for the last number of years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Real-life space exploration helped to make <em>Star Trek<\/em> popular, after a slow start for the show. &#8220;In 1969 <strong>Neil Armstrong<\/strong> stepped on the moon, and I think that had a great impact on <em>Star Trek<\/em> reruns,&#8221; said Nimoy. &#8220;The show began to find a tremendous new audience.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What about the future?
