According to New York Magazine’s Vulture blog<\/a>, J.J. Abrams<\/strong> is now finishing a script on a film that is a tribute to as well as a collaboration with Stephen Spielberg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The script is described as “a tip of the hat to [Spielberg’s] movies of the 70’s and early 80’s,” and Abrams supposedly will “roll up his sleeves and direct the script himself” for Paramount this fall.<\/p>\n

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the movie is supposed to deal with normal people whose personal relationships are tested when “fantastic or other-worldly events” occur.<\/p>\n

Abrams is also supposed to be in discussions with Spielberg, who will be involved in some way with the film; as an advisor, perhaps, or as executive producer. “J.J. wants to make sure Steven is properly paid homage to,” said a source. “This is really an interpretation of some of Spielberg’s earlier films, but done in a personal way.”<\/p>\n

The script has a name, which will be kept secret for maximal marketing impact, and the movie will be low-budget for a studio movie.”<\/p>\n
