{"id":9463,"date":"2010-06-15T13:15:47","date_gmt":"2010-06-15T20:15:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=9463"},"modified":"2010-06-15T15:17:15","modified_gmt":"2010-06-15T22:17:15","slug":"star-trek-ift-fan-club-relaunches-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2010\/06\/star-trek-ift-fan-club-relaunches-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Star Trek IFT Fan Club Relaunches Today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After months of preparation, The International Federation of Trekkers has become The Federation, with the unveiling of a new website and <em>Voyages<\/em>, a <em>Star Trek<\/em> e-zine.<\/p>\n<p>The International Federation of Trekkers (IFT) was launched in 1984 in Cleveland, Ohio, with the blessing and help of <strong>Gene Roddenberry<\/strong>, is now an international non-profit corporation. &#8220;This is a very exciting day for me,&#8221; said <strong>Russ Haslage<\/strong>, president of The Federation.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/TheFederation061510.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9465\" title=\"TheFederation061510\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/TheFederation061510.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"76\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/TheFederation061510.gif 400w, https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/TheFederation061510-300x57.gif 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I promised Gene that I would take good care of this organization,&#8221; added Haslage. &#8220;I hope today he might be proud. Not so much of me, but of what the Federation has become.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to Haslage, Roddenberry wanted their organization to be one &#8220;where fans from all over the world, with different interests and different talents, would come together to do wondrous things. &#8216;Do as the crew of the Enterprise does in every episode&#8230;go places and help people&#8217; Roddenberry told them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>New features include a new website, &#8220;a Federation Marine Corps, for members who want to play in the land forces part of <em>Star Trek<\/em>, much like the MACOs seen in <em>Star Trek: Enterprise<\/em>,&#8221; and <em>Voyages<\/em>, a new magazine for members.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Voyager061510.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-9468\" title=\"Voyager061510\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Voyager061510.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"116\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>&#8220;I think the thing that is most exciting and will get the most acclaim is the new Voyages magazine,&#8221; said Haslage. &#8220;It is a top-notch publication that will rival any magazine on the market today. And what&#8217;s special about it is that it&#8217;s for fans, by fans and about fans. I think the magazine will really get a lot of attention.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This month&#8217;s issue of <em>Voyages<\/em> includes messages from Voyages Editor <strong>E.J. Haley<\/strong> and The Federation President Russ Haslage, word of a new scholarship for working adults, an explanation of the new changes for the fan club, A conversation with <strong>George Takei<\/strong>, &#8220;OMG! <strong>Chase Masterson<\/strong>,&#8221; an article on ITF hero <strong>Matthew Haines<\/strong>, an interview with Star Trek Phase II&#8217;s <strong>James Cawley<\/strong>, The Virtual Federation, <strong>Rod Roddenberry<\/strong> and Trek Nation, upcoming conventions, several articles from our own <em>TrekToday<\/em> and more!<\/p>\n<p>The website is designed well and has seven sections aside from the homepage. The sections are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HQ Command. Further divided into History, Mission and Departments.<\/li>\n<li>Docking. Where information on the various fleets and chapters can be found.<\/li>\n<li>Other Ports. Links to affiliates and other Trek-related sites.<\/li>\n<li>The Promenade. Fans are welcomed by none other than Cyrano Jones. This is where Trek-related merchandise will be sold.<\/li>\n<li>Habitat. Where fans go to play and to socialize. Several games are available in this section.<\/li>\n<li>News and Events. Details on membership are found in this section. A place where fans can find news from several Trek sites, including <em>TrekToday<\/em>. There will also be a blog here.<\/li>\n<li>Membership. The Federation offers extra perks, such as an extra game (TradeWars), their version of Facebook (Spacebook), a members&#8217; forum and the e-magazine, <em>Voyages<\/em>, for members.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Fans are encouraged to check out The Federation.
