Star Trek Model Kits On Their Way!
By LisaSeptember 1, 2002 - 8:42 PM
Clear a space on your shelf for a brand new line of Star Trek merchandise - Trek model kits.
Model company Polar Lights has acquired the license to make snap together model kits based on Star Trek ships. The kits will be available around late Summer 2003.
The first kit will be base on the Original Series Enterprise. The kit will be a 'three in one' package, supplied with parts to with parts and markings that allow it to be built as both of the pilot versions of the ship - as well as the more familiar vessel seen in the series. It will be in a 1:1000 scale and eleven inches in length.
The NX-01 from Enterprise will also be available. In a 1:350th scale it will be two feet in length - and it is hoped that this will be the first in a line of model Trek ships in this size.
"Ok, so the cat's out of the bag, a wee bit early!," wrote Polar Lights' Dave Metzner on the Polar Lights BBS. "We are doing Star Trek kits. Our hope is to reach both the novice modeller and the experienced builder with two lines of Starships."
Design work on the models will be completed by Thomas Sasser, of Thomas Models.
An official announcement by Polar Lights is expected soon. In the meantime, more information can be found here in the Polar Lights BBS, or in this article at Cinescape. Thanks go out to jimjustplainjim for this news.
