Nichols Keeping Busy

Being finished with her role in Star Trek XI doesn't mean actress Rachel Nichols has nothing to do.

As reported by the Morning Sentinel, this has been a busy year for the actress who portrays an Orion in Star Trek XI, which opens next May. Nichols took on the role of Julia in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 which arrived in theaters last month. Next year, in addition to Star Trek XI, Nichols will be seen in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, which is slated for release in August 2009.

Taking a bit of time out from her career to get married, Nichols and Universal Studios Producer Scott Stuber were married on July 26th. "It was stressful even with an army of people," said Nichols. "We had a lot of help. We had an arsenal of people and a wedding planner."

Nichols even changed her hair color for the wedding, returning to her natural blonde. She had been a redhead for two different movies, including Star Trek XI, but promised Stuber that she would be blonde for their wedding. "I was a redhead for 'Star Trek' and 'G.I. Joe,'" she explained. "For the first time in my life I had to dye my hair. In all my years of modeling I never had to dye my hair. I worked with J.J. [Abrams] before in 'Alias,' and he asked really nicely if I would dye my hair." When she was signed for the G.I. Joe movie, the producers asked her to remain a redhead for the movie. "I had red hair up until five weeks before my wedding," said Nichols. "It's the sexiest red color you've even seen."

Then it was off to a honeymoon in Bora Bora, a French Polynesian island in the South Pacific. "We literally went deep underground," said Nichols, referring to her time there. "We checked e-mail one day."

Now that she is back in town, Nichols is ready to work again. "There's always room for a great TV show, a good, juicy fun role," she said. "I don't know if I'll take my chance doing a pilot since I got my heart broken with two of them. But I want to be open-minded."
