Kate Mulgrew Con Report

By Christian
May 2, 2000 - 8:31 PM

Totally Kate!, a fan site for Kate Mulgrew (Kathryn Janeway), has put up a collection of reports from Starfest 2000, a convention held in Denver, Colorado, from the 14th to the 16th of April.

At the con, Mulgrew appeared onstage together with John deLancie (Q) to perform 'The Lion and the Portuguese', a play co-written by DeLancie. He wrote it over 20 years ago together with Susan Rivers, who he has unfortunately now lost contact with, so he asked con attendants to let him know via his Alien Voices site if any of them knew Rivers. You can read about the play itself in the play report featured on Totally Kate!

Also available is a report of Mulgrew's Q&A session at the con. Here's a summary of that report, featuring her most newsworthy answers:

  • Filming for the 6th season had just been completed that week, and Mulgrew said the site seemed like a 'war zone', as Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine) had been injured falling out of bed and Roxann Dawson (B'Elanna Torres) was on crutches due to recent surgery. Ryan was also already injured a few months ago after she tripped at a UPN press meeting.

  • Though this won't come as a surprise to any of you, Mulgrew confirmed Voyager will be coming home next season.

  • According to Mulgrew, there won't be any great romances for Janeway next season. She apparently wasn't too thrilled with the holo-lover Janeway got in 'Fair Haven' and 'Spirit Folk', and mentioned that after lobbying for a romance for Janeway what she got was 'Air'.

  • Mulgrew mentioned she wasn't too happy with the non-ensemble writing the show has seen since Seven of Nine arrived on the show. She commented that there are nine people in the group, and it takes all of them, not just one, to make the show.
