Goldberg To Co-Host 'The View'

Whoopi Goldberg (Guinan) will be joining The View
The Washington Post was one among many news venues to carry the announcement, first given by producer and co-host Barbara Walters on yesterday's show. Goldberg will replace popular but controversial co-host Rosie O'Donnell.
Goldberg will become a moderator on The View's 11th season, which has its season premiere in September. "She's brilliant, she's funny, she's an enormous talent, she's an Oscar-winning actress, a Broadway superstar and we have her!" Walters said
The 51-year-old Goldberg has served as a guest panelist on The View and will continue to host her nationally syndicated morning radio show, Wake Up With Whoopi. "There are so many great opportunities in The View to just sit and sort of explore ideas and learn a whole bunch of stuff that I don't know anything about and have some fun," Goldberg told The Washington Post.
O'Donnell created controversy by clashing with her co-hosts, guests and other celebrities, yet the show's ratings jumped during her appearances. Goldberg - who has won an Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Grammy award - is also known for "liberal politics and barbed comedy", in the words of The Baltimore Sun.
Hollywood publicist Howard Bragman said of Goldberg, "She is a beloved brand name, she is outspoken, she has done this before, she is a person of color, she is as far left as Rosie" and she can easily hold her own against the more conservative members of The View.
