Site Columns
By CaillanMay 3, 2001 - 2:14 PM
Hello World!
I don't quite know how to approach this column given the fact that I don't have a laptop or any other electrical appliance that consistently gives me trouble. I pondered whether it would be worth buying a kettle or blender in the hope that it would fail spectacularly and give me something to write about. However, the existing kettle works fine at the moment, I am pleased to report. I would like a blender, however. Stay tuned for exciting details in that department.
Some of you may be familiar with me from my 'Briefing' column series here at the Trek Nation, and thus there is something that I must break to a few of you. I am not in fact, a 'Ms. Davenport.' And yes, Caillan is my real name - not the misspelling of a 'Babylon 5' character, which I encountered on the BBS the other day. I must say, that was one I hadn't heard before.
When I'm not chained to the computer in eternal servitude to the Trek Nation, I moonlight as an Ancient History student at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. If I'm not in classes or sleeping under a tree I can usually be found blocking up the library's Roman History section. (And I swear I didn't know you couldn't take out more than 12 books at a time!)
Now, it's 12:20am in the morning here, so I really better get to bed before sleep becomes what's termed an 'optional extra.'
Trek BBS Today
Below are some of the topics currently being discussed at the Trek BBS:
- Now that 'Natural Law' has aired, check out da Woim's review, FounderLeader's analysis or this thread asking whether the episode was worthy enough to be one of the final few aired.
- Are critics of a 22nd Century Series V justified?
- Would you violate the Prime Directive?

Trek Two Years Ago
Two years ago today, Monday May 3rd, 1999, the Trek Today headlines included:
- Unreliable Teletext Rumours
The site posted some wild rumours from the British Telext service for their amusement value. These included 'New Super Enemy to Attack Earth,' 'Borg Seven set to leave Voyager' and my personal favourite, 'Captain Janeway in Secret Marriage.' - Voyager's Seventh Season Confirmed
A report from Fed Con 7 in Germany stated that both Robert Duncan Mc Neill and Jeri Ryan had confirmed that Voyager would run for seven seasons. Ryan said that she would sign up for the seventh season if the quality of the writing for her character remained good. At that time, rumours were flying around indicating that Ryan and Kate Mulgrew wished to leave the series. Of course, in the end, they all signed on, and two years later we find ourselves on the verge of the final Voyager episode. - Trek Today's 1000th Headline
The site reached this very important milestone two years ago. Of course, back then, the site had far more headlines per day than it does now because of the differences in organisation - there were no news or gaming bullets, for instance.
Poll Results
I'm afraid the results of the previous poll vanished mysteriously during the production of these Site Columns. Apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Please vote in our new poll, which asks what you thought of the episode 'Natural Law.'
