Abrams, Kurtzman & Orci Have New Projects Underway

Upcoming Star Trek screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and director J.J. Abrams both have new projects in the works.

SuperheroHype cited a Hollywood Reporter story that Kurtzman and Orci were in talks to write the screenplay for Transformers 2, the sequel to Dreamworks/Paramount's highly successful Transformers film of the past summer.

Screenwriter Ehren Kruger will be joining them, which the trade magazine speculates may be because Kurtzman and Orci are busy working on Star Trek for Paramount and producing Eagle Eye for DreamWorks. The three writers are working together on Nightlife for DreamWorks, with Kruger writing the screenplay and Kurtzman and Orci on the production team.

Director Michael Bay, executive producer Steven Spielberg and some of the cast will return for the feature as well.

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter stated that Abrams' deal with Warner Bros. has finally produced a television series, Boundaries which will air on ABC like his hit shows Lost and Alias. The one-hour comedy project is written by Six Feet Under's Jill Soloway.

"Abrams has been busy on the feature side lately, prepping the new 'Star Trek' movie for Paramount," noted the article, which described the new series as the story of "a failing cable access psychologist who rediscovers her true purpose when she is forced to take a job as a mobile notary."

Soloway, who earned three Emmy nominations as part of the Six Feet Under production team, is executive producing Boundaries with Abrams and fellow Star Trek producer Bryan Burk.
