McAvoy Talks Trek, Knows His Klingons

When it was first reported that James McAvoy might appear in Star Trek XI, the Sunday Mail article's certainty seemed highly suspect, as it also claimed that Matt Damon would certainly play Captain Kirk (story). Now, however, McAvoy himself has expressed enthusiasm about the idea.
The IESB caught up with McAvoy - who co-stars with Oscar nominee Forest Whitaker in The Last King of Scotland - at the press junket for his new film Starter for 10. When asked whether there was any truth to the rumour that the Scottish actor might play Montgomery Scott, McAvoy said, "Beam me up...I'm a very big Star Trek fan, you see, but, no, I couldn't possibly comment."
When the interviewer inquired whether he had been approached about the role, McAvoy first joked about it, saying, "I was approached by a Klingon and I ran away. I was very scared, he came at me with his batleth." The interviewer persisted in asking whether he had been approached, and McAvoy then said, "Not in so many words."
But would he do it? "I don't know, to tell you the truth," replied the actor. "I'm a Star Trek geek, fan, fanatic, so, anything about it could make me cry." The interviewer reported that he became nervous, giggly and uncomfortable when the subject came up.
