Captain Archer will find himself wondering whether to provide help to an alien race in the second new Enterprise episode of 2002.
UPN today released its official plot description for 'Dear Doctor,' the Enterprise episode that will air two weeks from now:
The crew encounters an alien race in desperate need of medical and scientific assistance. Phlox declines to assist them because of his ethical beliefs leaving Archer to decide whether to help them find their own solutions.
'Dear Doctor' was written by the Enterprise staff writing team of Marie & Andre Jacquemetton, who also wrote last year's 'Breaking the Ice'. The episode was directed by James A. Contner, who is new to the Trek universe, but has directed a large number of episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, as well as installments of Roswell, Charmed and The X-Files.
In addition to the above creating staff info, UPN also released the names of the five main guest stars appearing in the episode:
- Kellie Waymire as Elizabeth Cutler
- David A. Kimball as Esaak
- Chris Rydell as Alien Astronaut
- Karl Wiedergott as Larr
- Alex Nevil as Menk Man
Waymire will be reprising her role as Ensign Cutler from the third Enterprise episode, 'Strange New World'. Prior to that, she already appeared in Voyager's 'Muse' as Lanya, but she has also had guest-starring roles on series such as C.S.I.: Crime Scene Investigation, Judging Amy and The X-Files.
Besides Waymire, the only actor who previously appeared on Star Trek is Karl Wiedergott, who played Ameron in Voyager's 'Warlord'. But Wiedergott has extensive additional acting experience, having had guest spots on shows such as The Simpsons, ER and Judging Amy.
David Kimball has guest-starred in series such as L.A. Law, Babylon 5 and The West Wing, as well as appearing for minor roles in films such as 'The Firm.' Chris Rydell, the son of well-known actor and director Mark Rydell, has had minor roles in films such as his father's 'On Golden Pond.' Alex Nevill starred in the 2000 indie film The Priests, but has also made guest appearances in series such as That 70's Show, ER and Bob Patterson.
'Dear Doctor' has previously been rumoured to feature the Enterprise encountering the planet Valakis, containing a pre-warp civilisation inhabited by two alien races. The planet suffers from an unknown disease that is killing the population, and Captain Archer quickly agrees to help find a cure. But when the aliens also ask for the secret of warp technology he is not so sure, and finally begins to realise the Vulcans may also have been right in not giving humans warp technology. The episode is also rumoured to feature a romance for Dr. Phlox.
Look for 'Dear Doctor' to air on UPN on the 23rd of January.
