'Nemesis' Deleted Scenes Announced
By AntonyMarch 8, 2003 - 1:20 PM
Paramount Home Entertainment has released full details of the deleted scenes from 'Nemesis' that will appear on the DVD release of the movie.
The details (via STARTREK.COM) confirm the recent TrekToday report on the scenes that would be appearing on the DVD (story). As expected, we will be seeing a total of seven cut portions of the film in total — but they won't be re-integrated into the movie.
According to the report at the official Star Trek website, executive producer Rick Berman will introduce the deleted segments on the DVD. He will explain how the movie ran 45 minutes too long, and the "really painful" process of bringing the film down in length.
The report goes into some detail about the scenes, and says this about the fifth deleted segment:
The fifth, and perhaps most notorious deleted scene — seen briefly in the trailer for the film — is what has come to be known as the second "mental rape" of Deanna Troi. Occurring in the turbolift, Deanna enters the empty chamber and requests her destination. As the camera spins around once (using what Baird describes as a "snorkel camera") we then see Shinzon, or the apparition of, lying in wait. Shinzon, although back on his ship and being mentally abetted by his Viceroy, commits an act of mental intrusion on Troi. Shinzon insists that her heart longs to discover him, to know him and to be with him. She breaks his mental bond, but the damage is done. She sinks to her knees and catches her breath.
The Star Trek Nemesis DVD will be released on May 20, 2003. To order your copy and support TrekToday, please use the following links: Amazon.com - Widescreen - Amazon.com - Fullscreen - Amazon.ca - Amazon.de.
