Details about the original Star Trek HD-DVD have been released, including the news that the set will include behind-the-scenes 8mm production footage that has never been released before.
High-Def Digest announced that Paramount Home Entertainment revealed in the program guide for Comic-Con that it would give conventiongoers the first glimpse at footage from the new original series set. Since Paramount has also promised new details about the upcoming eleventh Star Trek movie at Comic-Con, it promises to be an exciting convention for Star Trek fans.
As part of Star Trek's 40th anniversary celebration last year, Paramount announced plans to release Star Trek on HD-DVD. The studio promised new GGI enhancements such as spaceship exteriors like those seen on the remastered Star Trek episodes, plus a digitally remastered recording of William Shatner reading of Captain Kirk's "Space, the final frontier..." monologue.
No street date has been announced yet for the set. There has also been no announcement of plans for a Blu-ray release. Comic-Con's schedule marks July 26th as the date of "Star Trek: The Original Series - As You've Never Seen It," which will also include franchise insiders.
