Cingular is releasing the HTC Star Trek phone in the United States as the Cingular 3125, keeping features such as the ability to sync data with Outlook and EDGE browsing on Cingular's network.
Gizmodo lamented the name change but reiterated its positive review of the phone design. The Cingular 3125 is available now for business customers for $149 with a two-year service agreement.
The phone, which has a clamshell shape, comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera and runs Windows Mobile. Engadget listed other features such as Bluetooth, Direct Push mail, quad-band GSM with GPRS/EDGE, 128MB ROM/64MB RAM and a 2.2-inch display.
the unwired added that another version of the phone, the Cingular 3120, will be available without the camera. The phone is expected to be in general release very soon. "The HTC Star Trek is the first Windows Mobile Smartphone Edition device to sport a 'slim' flip phone design a la the Motorola Razr," noted Alfredo Padilla, who added that, like the Razr, the Star Trek phone has keys for controlling music playback on the outside when the clamshell is closed.
There is a more complete review of the phone at Laptop Magazine, which called it "Best for casual e-mail users, the 3125 is a sleek phone for work or play that’s just smart enough" and suggested it for "Razr lovers looking for a little more intelligence - without sacrificing fun."
