New spoilers for 'A Night In Sickbay' posted online yesterday have revealed another of the episode's plot threads - diplomatic troubles for Captain Archer.
The episode begins with the crew searching for a new plasma injector for Enterprise, according to SFX Magazine's source 'TrekSpy' (via the Great Link). However, on a visit to an alien planet which could provide the needed part, Captain Archer's dog, Porthos, precipitates a diplomatic incident when he uses a "beloved tree" as a toilet.
Consequently, the aliens refuse to hand over the plasma injector to the crew until Archer apologises. But saying sorry isn't top on the list of Archer's priorities when Porthos is infected by an alien pathogen on the planet, and there are fears the beloved beagle may be eating cheese in doggy heaven before the night is out. An emotional Archer thinks the aliens are at fault for not informing him of the disease before they sent a landing party down to the planet.
As already stated in the official synopsis of the episode, Archer moves into sickbay for the night to watch over Porthos. As Archer begins to exhibit signs of stress, Doctor Phlox suggests that Archer's obstinacy could be connected with his loneliness and need for companionship - with a certain shapely Vulcan Sub-Commander the object of his desires.
The synopsis did not include many details about this middle portion of the episode, but it did reveal that Archer eventually apologises to the aliens and in return they provide Enterprise with the plasma injector. Archer and T'Pol "chat for an awkward moment" and Porthos lives to eat cheese another day.
Please note that not all these details have been officially confirmed by Paramount Pictures and until then they should be treated as you would any other rumour. The original article can be found here at the Great Link.
