Shatner Aims To Reach Out With New Web Site

William Shatner (James T. Kirk) can't wait to cross the cybernetic frontier when his new web site launches tomorrow.
Speaking to the BBC's Simon Baldock, Shatner was enthusiastic about the new venture. "It may be unique," he said. "It's a desire to reach out to the fans and to share what I am thinking and what they are thinking and to have an interaction. So it's a very complex and different way of reaching out."
The actor is working together with his daughter Lisabeth Shatner on the project. "There is room for chatting that I'll be conducting and my daughter is writing original material that will be interactive in an absolutely different way. She's writing a soap opera that is interactive. If you were to go on the web site and read what she is writing, you could get in touch with her through email and you would be part of the story. That's how innovative it is."
After being in the public eye for most of his adult life, Shatner is aware of the intense interest in his activities. "There are aspects of my life that are fun to share," he said. "I've taken to carrying a digital camera at events, things that I'll go to, openings I've been to and that are uniquely celebrity-driven to share with the people who watch [Star Trek] what it's like to be from my end. So there's a camera sticking out of my nose in a variety of places, and I think that'll be of interest to the people who want to share it on that web site."
WilliamShatner.com is scheduled to launch tomorrow. The full audio interview, in which the actor also talked about his Weakest Link appearance, can be found here at BBC Essex.
