It has been confirmed that Greg Ellis, a British actor best known for his role in 24, will be taking on the role of Chief Engineer Olsen.
As reported at Trekmovie.com, Ellis will portray the role of Chief Engineer of the Enterprise, the title held by Montgomery Scott (Scotty) under Captain James T. Kirk.
It is expected that Scotty will step into that role at some point in the film. He may appear in the earlier part of Star Trek XI as a civilian. Rumors have it that he has a "midget sidekick." There was a casting call for little people last month but it is unknown if this is related to the sidekick or not.
Ellis, born in Lancashire, England, is best known for his role of the villain Michael Amador, an arms dealer, who was seen in the third season of 24. He has appeared in Star Trek before, playing Ekoor, a Cardassian, in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode What You Leave Behind. Other movies or shows of note in which he has appeared are: Knight Rider, Titanic and X-files. Ellis has also done voice work for various projects, including Star Trek video games.
