Hello World!
After the pilot I didn't think this would ever happen, but I'm actually beginning to like Dark Angel. I was too busy to see the second episode last week (funny how Enterprise announcements tend to do that to you), and originally I didn't think I was going to tune in today either. But then I noticed what the local TV station here had programmed as Dark Angel's lead-in: La Femme Nikita! I've loved Nikita ever since the show started airing here, so of course they had me hooked.
After the end credits rolled, they launched pretty much right into Dark Angel, so I figured I might as well stick around and give the show another chance. Maybe it was because DS9 veteran René Echevarria wrote this episode (in which Max ends up in prison after trying to steal pills from a hospital), but I actually liked it - the plot didn't move as slowly as in the pilot, and Max's friends actually had some use beyond just being there as screen filler. And I'm beginning to believe more in the series' future, too - the flashbacks to the time right after the Pulse and just the general degradation of the society there were a lot more effective in suggesting a future than those few silly hovering shuttles in the pilot. Who knows - maybe I'll turn into a fan after all.

Trek Two Years Ago
Below are some of the most important headlines that appeared on TrekToday on Thursday the 20th of May, 1999:
- More 'Trekkies' Reviews - 'Trekkies' was released this week (I think even on this very day), and reviews were appearing everywhere. Sadly, most writers seemed to take special delight in reviewing Trekkies, the fans rather than 'Trekkies,' the film.
- Shatner Irritated With Trek Fans - William Shatner (James T. Kirk) wasn't in one of his more tactful moods when he was interviewed in Cannes a few weeks earlier. "I have been asked questions such as: 'When you said hello in episode 13 what did it mean?'," he said. "I have never thought much about my audience. I avoid people as much as possible."
- UPN To Focus On Young Male Audience - UPN announced its plans for the Fall season, which included the launch of WWF Smackdown! and the 'UPN Blockbuster Shockwave Cinema' night. At the time, nothing was expected to change for Voyager, 'Tsunkatse' still being several months of away from even being considered.
