As Enterprise heads toward its third season finale, its ratings have not shown the improvement that UPN had hoped to gain from the Xindi arc.
According to Zap2It, the Smallville season finale on the WB, "Covenant", earned a 3.6 rating/6 share "to solidly thump UPN's Star Trek: Enterprise" penultimate third season episode, "Countdown".
The hour-long finale of That '70s Show and ratings powerhouse American Idol led FOX to ratings victory last night, according to Zap2It. FOX averaged a 10.1 rating/16 share, with a 7.0/12 in the 8 p.m. hour, while UPN brought in an average 1.8/3 for Enterprise and I'm Still Alive.
MediaWeek Programming Insider Marc Berman devoted his column today to FOX and UPN fall schedules, and did not publish the overnight ratings as he usually does.
"The good news for Trekkies, and there are apparently still many, is the return of the on-the-fence Star Trek: Enterprise," he wrote. "Even so, you may want to consider next season its last, given that repeat lead-in America's Next Top Model is unlikely to ignite the 8 p.m. hour."
Zap2It summarizes fast national ratings data.
