If you've ever wanted to trace the route of the U.S.S. Voyager or examine the political layout of the Beta Quadrant, then be sure to pick up 'Star Trek: Star Charts,' to be released in October.
The 96-page full-colour atlas of the Star Trek universe was written and illustrated by veteran graphic artist Geoffrey Mandel.
Included in the book are sections on each of the four quadrants, with details of the political layout of the galaxy, worlds, and civilisations. There are also profiles on specific planets such as Bajor, Cardassia, Rigel and Vulcan.
The routes of the U.S.S. Voyager, Enterprise NX-01, and a chart dealing with the Dominion War also form part of the book. At the back there are several gatefold charts of the United Federation of Planets.
Doug Drexler, Tim Earls, and Larry Nemecek also contributed to 'Star Charts,' which benefited from technical advice by Trek veterans Andre Bormanis, Mike Okuda, and Rick Sternbach.
Mandel has worked for the Trek franchise for the past seven years, helping to create the artistic look of Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, and the feature films 'Star Trek: Generations' and 'Star Trek: Insurrection.' The artist will be leaving Trek at the end of Enterprise's current season to pursue opportunities in feature films.
"As with almost everybody in the graphics department, I'm delighted the way Enterprise has turned out," Mandel said, "and wish the best for my friends Mike Okuda, Denise Okuda, and Jim Vanover, and particularly my old New York City pals Doug Drexler and Anthony Fredrickson."
