'Yesterday's Enterprise' Book Released

Next Generation script coordinator Eric A. Stillwell recently published a new book which offers a behind-the-scenes look at the popular episode 'Yesterday's Enterprise.'

Entitled 'The Making of Yesterday's Enterprise,' the book is available exclusively from Lincoln Enterprises at Roddenberry.com. Stillwell, who co-wrote the episode's story with Trent Christopher Ganino, charts the progress of the acclaimed third season instalment from concept to finished product.

The book contains the complete shooting script of the episode, written by Ira Steven Behr, Richard Manning, Hans Beimler, Ronald D. Moore and an uncredited Michael Piller, as well as earlier drafts of the story. Several behind-the-scenes photographs are also included.

Despite being a fan favourite, 'Yesterday's Enterprise' had a troubled gestation period. In order to accommodate the schedules of guest stars Whoopi Goldberg (Guinan) and Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar), the final draft of the teleplay was penned by five writers in three days.

"Most of the writers were not very happy with the script," Stillwell told Larry Nemecek in 'The Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion'. "They thought it was going to be horrible, because they don't like having to write [something] and make it work in three days."

Stillwell, who now serves as script coordinator on The Dead Zone, will be signing copies of 'The Making of Yesterday's Enterprise' at the Lincoln Enterprises table at the Creation convention in Las Vegas, which runs from August 2-4. Alternatively, the book is also available through the Roddenberry.com online store.
