Dina Meyer Talks Romulan Make-up

As the well-oiled 'Star Trek Nemesis' publicity machine continues to turn, members of the film's cast have offered their opinions on a variety of topics ranging from romance to the eternal question - will it be the final fling for the TNG crew?

One actor who isn't looking at 'Nemesis' as the end of the road is Dina Meyer (Romulan Commander Donatra). The actress, who appeared in 'Starship Troopers' and currently stars in Birds of Prey, had to endure the traditional Trek guest star treatment - funny foreheads.

"I had a prosthetic forehead that they stuck to my head," Meyer told DreamWatch (via TrekWeb). "The morning make-up routine consisted of me getting my head wrapped - they make your hair pin-curled and they put your head in a wig cap, so all your hair is pulled off your face. Then you go to the make-up trailer, where they attach the prosthetic ear tips and then they pile on the make-up. When it's sunny outside and you're sitting with 14 layers of slick greasepaint make-up on, it's not comfortable."

The actress also had to wear a somewhat constricting costume which had her literally standing to attention. "I did have to stand much straighter in it, because of the way they zip you into it - you kind of feel like you're up on a cross," she said.

Despite the long hours in make-up and costume, Meyer enjoyed the experience of acting in a Star Trek feature. "I've never been a Trekkie, but Star Trek has been around longer than I have, so it was really exciting to just have something to do with the franchise."

The full article can be found in the latest issue of DreamWatch, which also includes an interview with production designer Herman Zimmerman. Extracts from both articles are available here at TrekWeb.
