Larry King Live Delays Frustrate Koenigs

2 min read

Walter and Judy Koenig were due to appear on Larry King Live last night to ask for help in finding their missing son, but too many delays resulted in the couple opting out of doing the segment.

Another news story, one on a killer whale attack at SeaWorld, was given precedence on the show and by the time Larry King was ready for the Koenigs, there was only five minutes left of his hour show, which the Koenigs felt was insufficient time to present their story to the public.

As the program neared its end, just before a commercial break, King promoted the upcoming interview with the Koenigs, panning to a live shot of the couple in Vancouver. But after the commercial, the couple was gone and King did not know what had happened. “I’m told that they left the studio,” he said, “so we’ll take a quick break and find out why.”

After the commercial break, King told his audience that “For some reason unbeknownst to anyone, Walter Koenig, the father of the missing Andrew Koenig, and Judy Levin-Koenig, the mother of the missing Andrew Koenig, left the studio in Vancouver. We checked them out, they were prepared to go on. I said ‘hello,’ they both said ‘hello.’ We said we’d be on in two minutes, they said ‘fine,’ and they got up and left for reasons unknown.”

Danielle Koenig, daughter of Walter and Judy and sister of the missing Andrew, explained why the Koenigs left abruptly. “[Larry King Live] kept pushing the segment back and my dad was growing frustrated,” she said. “When he realized there were only four-and-a-half minutes left, he didn’t feel that was enough time to do my brother justice. So, he left.”
