John Jefferies Sr. Passes

John Jefferies Sr., art designer on the original series, died at the age of seventy-four on March 25 in Sherman Oaks, California due to complications from lung cancer.

Born in Richmond, Virginia, Jefferies was one of three brothers, the other two being Matthew and Phillip, who worked as art and set directors and production designers.

John and brother Matt Jefferies worked on the original series, and were responsible for the design of the original phaser pistol. Jefferies was also involved in the final construction design for the USS Enterprise.

TV credits for Jefferies include shows such as: Operation Petticoat, The Gypsy Warriors, The Greatest American Hero, Matlock and JAG.

Some of Jefferies movie credits include: The Chase, The Happiest Millionaire, Hello Dolly, Funny Girl, Cat Ballou, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, Catch-22, Malice in Wonderland, I Still Know What You Did Last summer and Black Knight.

Jefferies is survived by his wife, Delores, and six children.
