Star Trek Into Darkness Villain Revealed?
1 min readFans have been speculating as to the identity of the villain played by Benedict Cumberbatch in Star Trek into Darkness, and a recent Entertainment Weekly photo description will surely start tongues wagging again.
The magazine recently posted several set photos as well as two magazine covers featuring Chris Pine, Cumberbatch and Zachary Quinto, and the original cover description for one gave the name of the villain.
“VOYAGE INTO THE NEW STAR TREK KIRK & KHAN,” said the caption for the cover featuring Pine and Cumberbatch.
The description was quickly removed, but not before eagle-eyed fans saw it (and saved it) and then the speculation began yet again.
The description may well be a mistake, possibly the result of looking up Cumberbatch on IMDB which has the actor playing Khan, but many fans are wondering if “John Harrison” will be revealed to be Khan, and so this caption will just pour gasoline on those speculative fires. Of course, given that it’s an alternate Trek world, perhaps Harrison is the leader of the genetic supermen, not Khan.
Fans will know for sure in May when Star Trek into Darkness debuts.
Why do I envision if Kirk flips open a communicator and yells “HARRISON!!!!!!” would come off sounding more like Mr. Dithers yelling at Dagwood?
“Star Trek villain revealed!” This headline again? How many times will the same headline be posted? I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes an internet meme to mock the hype and sticks around about as long as “Khaaaaaaann!!!!!” has.
Harrison is NOT Khan. That dead horse has been beaten enough as it is.
It’s so dead it was last seen in a finders lasagne
I really think that given all of the clues surrounding this
movie, that this was just an error on the part of the magazine. I am not
convinced that John Harrison will turn out to be Khan, and for now am just
content with waiting until the movie to find out for sure. To try to cope with
my excitement surrounding this movie, I have been watching everything Star Trek
using Blockbuster @Home from DISH. With my late work shift at DISH, I really
love that I can come home to a movie waiting in the mail. It’s so easy to
update my cue, and I really like being able to watch movies even with my busy
schedule. It’s also an added bonus that I can do in store exchanges, for days
when I can’t wait. Watching the Star Trek films again I am less convinced that John
is Khan, so I can’t wait to find out who he really is and his plans for
destruction.
My theory: the role was written as Khan, and then when they signed Cumberpatch, they changed it. But it was to be Khan originally, and is even written a lot like such, hence the continuation of the rumors.
Stasis pods? Hmm…
Nah, things are much more informal in this timeline. Kirk will grab his communicator and yell “JOHHHHNNNNNNNN!!!!!”
