Pine Busted For DUI

Star Trek into DarknessChris Pine was arrested in New Zealand earlier this month for drunk driving.

The actor was in New Zealand filming Z for Zachariah, his latest movie.

Pine was pulled over on March 1 during a routine early-morning check near Methven, a town on South Island.

“He looked like he just wanted to spend time with his partner [Iris Bjork Johannesdottir], said Casey Crawford, bar manager of the Blue Pub Methven. I think she just flew in that day.”

Pine had been attending a wrap party with fellow cast and crew members at the pub. “It was a really good party,” said Crawford. “It was really well controlled. Chris was really good. They were a good crowd, the whole lot of them.”

The bar had transportation for patrons if they needed it, but Pine did not avail himself of the service. “If something happened to him, he probably thought he was fine to drive,” said Crawford. “I thought he was.”

Pine is not the first Trek actor to be popped for DUI; Avery Brooks was caught driving under the influence in 2012.

  1. Until I read the final line, I thought Pine had truly gone where no Trek captain had gone before….

  2. Evidently, you didn’t see “The Captains.” It was a little documentary that Shatner did for Epix. He visited and interviewed all the Captains of Trek (minus Takei). Brooks was visiting and talking with the Prophets during his 15 minutes.

  3. I have little patience or sympathy for people that drive drunk. Brooks went down quite a few notches IMO after his infraction and Pine is no different. Jerks.

  4. If he was really “drunk” at all. I don’t know about New Zealand, but in most US states the legal intoxication limit has been brought down so low that you can get nailed on a DUI after a single beer.

  5. Christopher Pine made a mistake in judgement. Honestly, he should have known better and had someone transport(no pun intended)him home. Let alone had his keys taken away. Thankfully nobody got hurt in any accidents, so hopefully he learned his lesson from this.

  6. The blood alcohol limit is 0.08 in New Zealand. There was no mention of a blood alcohol test even having been taken. We’ll see how this fares in the NZ court system. I’m not condoning drinking and driving. Unfortunately it is an accepted practice and many people do it after a bar-b-que, dinner, party, and the list goes on. Perhaps Pine should have taken an offer for a ride back to his hotel, but according to the patrons and barkeepers, he didn’t appear drunk. What’s the likelihood that most of us non-teatotallers have gotten behind the wheel when we shouldn’t have. Perhaps before condemning him, it would be better to wait and see if he repeats the behavior.

By the way, you’ll want to know this. BC hinted at a return in the next installment. I hate it when I’m right.

  7. On the plus side, this might convince the writers that Reboot III has to have a…pardon the pun…more sober Kirk than we have seen to date, vice Frat Boy Kirk.

  8. Agreed. Society is far too lenient on drinking and the effects it has, drunk driving being one of the big ones. Far too many deaths due to this action based on a clear lack of good judgment. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m not condemning the man, I’m condemning the action.
