Cumberbatch One Of Time Magazine’s Most Influential
1 min readStar Trek into Darkness‘ Benedict Cumberbatch is on Time Magazine‘s list of 100 Most Influential People.
The reasons for the actor’s inclusion on the list were listed in an article in the magazine written by fellow actor Colin Firth.
Cumberbatch is an “alarmingly talented English star,” said Firth.
The son of two actors, “[Cumberbatch’s] parents’ qualities are on rampant display,” said Firth. “It’s rare to the point of outlandish to find so many variables in one actor, including features which ought to be incompatible: vulnerability, a sense of danger, a clear intellect, honesty, courage — and a rather alarming energy. I take no pleasure in feeling humbled, but there’s no getting around it. He must be stopped.”
The list includes Titans, Artists, Leaders, and Icons. Some of those listed include: Hillary Clinton, Edward Snowden, Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Steve McQueen, John Kerry, Barack Obama, Robert Redford, and Pope Francis.
The full list can be found here.
“The son of two actors, “[Cumberbatch’s] parents’ ” makes no sense, unless his parents were the son of two actors.
Grammar matters, folks.
I’m sorry. Good actor in some recent franchise films, sure. Actor-du-jour. But otherwise, how is he or ANY of these people influential in any form at all? Time magazine is becoming like Entertainment Weekly.
I hate these yearly “most beautiful” “most influential” B.S. lists. So how does someone on the list become no longer influential the very next year? Just because you aren’t in some stupid movie in 2015? That was the extent of your planetary influence???
I’m not sure why Cumberbatch is on this list. He isn’t big enough to influence the industry in any way yet, and he’s never done anything particularly unique or groundbreaking. The inclusion of Miley Cyrus seems to invalidate the whole thing in general though.
Perhaps his bowling-pin-shaped head makes him very influential in certain circles.
Benedict Cumberbatch has made the TIME Magazine List, and that is awesome. He is definitely one of the many awesome actors that the British film industry has ever produced. A brilliant and outstanding cinema, television, and stage actor.
I’m looking forward to viewing his future roles down the road.
I think it’s not a coincidence that he wore that suit (photo in the middle).
Interesting yes, but influential?
Have to agree – there is no reason for him to be on there other than he did Into Darkness and Sherlock but that doesn’t make you influential. But this list is a bit of a joke to begin with as how are Cyrus and Beyonce influencial to anyone over 18?
Not as much of a joke as Star Trek Continues is. And the people behind that sick joke of a Star Trek fan film series.
