Mulgrew To Receive Award
1 min readKate Mulgrew is to receive one of the three awards given out at this year’s Stella By Starlight Gala.
The Stella By Starlight annual event raises funds for the Stella Adler Studio of Acting which trains young artists including low-income inner-city New York City teenagers.
Mulgrew will receive the Stella Adler Award for “consummate artistic achievement and interpretation.”
Trained by Stella Adler herself, Mulgrew credits Adler with having “changed my life. I was seventeen years old. I’d just come from London. I studied with her in conjunction with New York University. I was the youngest member of her master class, the last one she taught.”
Other honorees include Ethan Hawke, who will receive the Brando Award for “excellence in the arts and a life devoted to social engagement,” and John Patrick Shanley, who will receive the Group Theater Award for “prolific achievement in theater, film and television arts and community and social commitment.”
The Stella by Starlight 10th Anniversary Gala will take place May 11 at 7 PM at the Prince George Ballroom in New York City.
Speaking of Mulgrew: Had I not happened to catch her name during the end credits, I wouldn’t have recognized her voice at all on the latest American Dad episode that aired yesterday (S11E10, A Star is Reborn). I don’t recall a mention of this over the last few days. Did it just catch everyone by surprise?
Between that and Orange is the New Black, I’m just glad to see/hear her on mainstream media again. She’s a lot of fun to watch on OitNB–her character’s the farthest thing imaginable from Janeway.
