American and UK fans waiting for William Shatner Presents: Chaos on the Bridge have only a few weeks left to wait.

The Next Generation documentary will be arriving on multiple digital platforms beginning August 1 in the US and August 3 in the UK. It is already available in the US via Vimeo.

“Writer, Director and acting legend William Shatner takes viewers inside the creation of Star Trek: The Next Generation, the bold attempt in 1986 to recreate the success of the original television series, through the eyes of the writers, producers, actors and executives who were involved.

Uncovering the controversial creation of Star Trek: The Next Generation, William Shatner Presents: Chaos on the Bridge features interviews with the original cast: William Shatner (Captain James T. Kirk), Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard), Jonathan Frakes (Commander William T. Riker), John de Lancie (Q), Denise Crosby (Lieutenant Tasha Yar), Gates McFadden (Dr. Beverly Crusher) and Diana Muldaur (Doctor Pulaski), as well as major players behind the camera who were involved with the production. Shatner takes viewers to the back lot of Paramount Studios, a mission control room at NASA, the theater stage and the largest Star Trek convention in the world to reveal the never-before-told story of Chaos on the Bridge. What emerges is a tale of power struggles, ego clashes, and most importantly, the legacy of the man behind the legend: Gene Roddenberry.

“Next year marks Star Trek‘s 50th anniversary.” said Lise Romanoff, Managing Director/CEO of Vision Films, Inc. “This insightful documentary is bound to strike a chord with both hardcore Trekkies and those who want to witness the ultimate creative forces of the production team behind this iconic sci-fi franchise at work.”

William Shatner Presents: Chaos on the Bridge will be available for rental or purchase on “all major digital platforms.” It is already available via Vimeo.

  1. So … if this is about the TNG era, why does the picture feature the TOS Enterprise?
Apart from that I really don’t get it why Shatner comes up with this documentary? What’s the point he’s trying to make?

  2. The TOS Enterprise is supposed to be a symbol for Star Trek in its original 1 hour television drama format, that being what is “at stake” at that poker table. Since this is 1986, TNG didn’t exist yet- all there was was the idea of bringing Star Trek back to the small screen in some form, which I think is perfectly represented by the original television Enterprise (as opposed to, say the then-current movie version) being placed in the center of the table.

As for Shatner’s motives, aside from being on a Star Trek documentary kick for the past few years…. ?

  3. I’m excited to hopefully see this on NetFlix ultimately. Shatner has a knack at making good documentaries so far, so I’m hopeful about this one!
