Quinto On Shaved Eyebrows

1 min read

Portraying a Vulcan means shaved eyebrows for human actors, but for Zachary Quinto, that’s not a problem.

The actor now does the eyebrow upkeep himself.

“I have to keep it up while we’re filming and shave them pretty regularly,” said Quinto. “I have kind of taken over the responsibility of doing it because it’s much less taxing and stressful.”

When he first had to have the shaved eyebrows for Star Trek (2009), Quinto wasn’t as confident about them. “I was pretty self-conscious about it in 2007 when I had to do it for the first time,” he said.

But things are different today. “I feel like it’s kind of a badge of honor at this point,” Quinto said.

I’m so glad to hear that! It made me sad when he used to complain about what’s necessary to play a Vulcan. Maybe carrying Spock onward as a testament to Mr. Nimoy in the wake of his death is making a difference in how Mr. Quinto feels?
