Takei In Pacific Overtures

1 min read

Star Trek‘s George Takei will be seen in Stephen Sondheim‘s Pacific Overtures musical this spring.

In Pacific Overtures, a samurai and a fisherman are “caught up in the westernization of the East” in 1853.

The story has parallels to today, says Takei. “[with] Donald Trump being inflicted upon this country and throwing this country into chaos, [it] is not all that different from a time when Japan was forced to open itself up to the outside world and the uproar that followed. He’s not aware of the world that we live in.”

Pacific Overtures begins performances on April 6 in New York City.
