1 min read

Nichelle Nichols won an International Inkpot Award at this year’s SDCC.

Comic-Con International‘s Inkpot Awards “are given to individuals for their contributions to the worlds of comics, science fiction/fantasy, film, television, animation, and fandom services.”

The award was given to Nichols by Comic-Con‘s deputy director, Tommy Goldbach. He said, “Nichelle Nichols not only inspired generations of young women with her pioneering Lieutenant Uhura character in Star Trek , but with her activism in space, she helped many women and minority representatives to follow the astronaut career, revolutionizing the American space program.”

Fellow original series actor Walter Koenig won the same award in 1982.
