Billingsley Joins Radio Drama
2 min readStar Trek: Enterprise‘s John Billingsley has joined the cast of Uncharted Regions, a new radio drama.
Uncharted Reason is an anthology series of “weird tales spanning several genres.”
Billingsley will appear in the Haven episode as Dr. Jacobson. Jacobson is “a dying man seeking peace on a remote alien world, but who finds himself pursued by a relentless agent of revenge.”
Jacobson is described as a “complex character,” and Billingsley was chosen to add a “mixture of gravitas, great intelligence and vulnerability to the role.”
Billingsley spoke about radio, and the shows to which he and his family would listen when he was young. “Our family had one of those big old-fashioned speakers,” he said; “so it felt like I was really entering a time tunnel. The Shadow, Fibber McGee and Molly, Easy Aces, Doc Savage, etc. I always loved the format and the era generally. Oh, how I wish I could rock a fedora.”
Billingsley added that he “thought this would be a terrific chance to do something that one rarely gets a chance to do anymore.
“We fat guys ain’t wanted on camera so much, and of course, the script itself appealed because of what it had to say about the nature of personal responsibility, dealing with a guilty conscience–yadda, yadda, yadda. I wish more people these days had guilty consciences or just…consciences.”
There is no release date, but once Season One production is finished, the writer/producers Neal and Jana Hallford will seek to partner with PBS or NPR, and with an audiobook or audio drama publisher for a wider audience reach.
