Dorn: It’s The Perfect Time For A Worf Series
2 min readStar Trek seems to be everywhere now, with Discovery ready to launch its second season, and other shows in development. So Michael Dorn believes it is a good time for a Worf Star Trek series to join the other shows.
Speaking with Inverse, Dorn said, “You’re not stepping on anybody’s toes, and I always thought the Klingon Empire was a great empire to write about because it’s Shakespearean.”
Dorn believes that a series featuring Worf as a captain of a Klingon ship is timely, given today’s events. “The Klingon Empire has had to evolve and change and they don’t like that and they’re fighting it every step of the way,” he said. “They’ve had to introduce aliens into their society. Just like our world now is becoming a global world where it’s not just like, ‘Oh we’re Californians and that’s all that really matters.’ We’re talking about something here and it affects China.”
But a Worf show would not just political. There would be lots of action, given the Klingon love of battle. “Worf has always been the most macho of the characters and so we are going to have battles and hand-to-hand combat,” said Dorn. “There’s gonna be talking, but there’s gonna be assassinations and coup attempts.”
The format of the proposed show would be familiar to fans of The Next Generation. “Worf is on a ship and he’s going out and all the adventures are happening with him,” said Dorn. “Every episode is like the original or Next Generation. It’s a self-contained episode that has a beginning, a middle, and an end. And it says something.”
But what if a Worf series does not happen? Dorn is open to appearing on the Picard series in production, but wants more than just a cameo.
