Park To Be Named After LeVar Burton

1 min read

Sacramento’s Parks Commission will rename two parks; one after LeVar Burton, and one after Ali Youssefi.

Richfield Park in Meadowview will be renamed LeVar Burton Park.

Richfield Park, three acres in total, was recently upgraded by the city. It features a nature-themed playground, fitness stations, basketball courts, a picnic area with shade canopy, and a turf amphitheater.

Burton, born to American parents in West Germany, came with his family to Sacramento when he was three years old.

“He’s always been proud of his Sacramento roots and he continues to use his career and his influence to be a strong advocate for literacy for children,” said Brianna Moland, an assistant planner for the city.

In response to a tweet reacting to the news, Burton said, “Wow, is all I can say as well!”

The name changes must be approved by the City Council before they will take place.
