Fans Petition For O’Brien Statue

1 min read

Fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: DS9‘s actor Colm Meaney have created an online petition, with the goal of honoring the actor by having a statue erected in Dublin, Ireland.

Born in Dublin, O’Brien is known to Trek fans as Miles O’Brien. When Deep Space Nine debuted, he was moved over to that series as a main cast member.

The petition creators will include the petition “to Dublin City Council to commission an artist to make a statue of Star Trek‘s Chief Miles O’Brien to be displayed on the streets of Dublin.”

Initially looking for a thousand signatures, as of this writing, the petition has more than double that at 2,461 signatures.

And no, the idea isn’t crazy. Other pop-culture characters have been honored. There is a RoboCop statue in Detroit, and one in Philadelphia of Rocky Balboa.
