Goldberg Joins The Stand

1 min read

Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s Whoopi Goldberg has signed on for CBS All Access‘s adaptation of Stephen King‘s The Stand novel.

The Stand “is set in a world decimated by plague and locked in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of 108-year-old Mother Abagail and a handful of survivors whose worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.”

Goldberg will take on the role of Mother Abagail, “a prophet who receives visions from God and guides survivors of the superflu.”

The cast includes James Marsden, Amber Heard, Odessa Young, Henry Zaga, Goldberg, Jovan Adepo, Owen Teague, Brad William Henke, and Daniel Sunjata.

The ten-episode series is expected to debut in 2020. King will provide a last chapter of the series, with an ending that isn’t in the original book.
