Giacchino Would Return To Trek
2 min readAlthough doing the score for Star Trek XI was initially a “nightmare” for Michael Giacchino, he would not be averse to returning for Star Trek 2.
High expectations for the J.J. Abrams sequel were anxiety-provoking for Giacchino. “Doing that score was a huge nightmare for me,” he said. “I was so excited up to the point where I actually had to sit there and do it. Then I was like, ‘Oh, my god. What do I do?'”
Added pressure came from Giacchino himself, because he was a Star Trek fan. “Not only did I have everyone else’s expectations, but I had my own expectations because I grew up watching Star Trek,” he said. “I love the old series more than anything. I watched the movies of course. I went and saw all of those. So there was this huge thing where I felt, ‘Oh, this is totally wrong. I should not be doing this. Why am I doing this? This was a bad idea.'”
It took words from Damon Lindelof to calm down the composer. “I was talking to Damon about it and he was like, ‘You know, I think the problem is that you are thinking about it too much as Star Trek. It is not Star Trek. Let’s forget about Star Trek. It is the story about two guys who meet and become friends.’ Once he said that I was like, ‘That is it! It is that simple!'”
Giacchino is ready to work on a Star Trek movie again. “I would love to,” he said. “It depends on how all of the pieces fall. I would be happy to do another one. It was one of those things that when it ended I was like, ‘Ugh! Never again!’ But now that time has passed…”
Loved the soundtrack, I have it on my mp3 player Giacchino did a great job with the music of the film:):)
If Giacchino is coming back to Star Trek, hopefully he has a soundtrack that is not as repetitive as the first one. Really thought the first one was overrated and not really his best work. The soundtrack for Up was so much better.
I agree with Pollock_65! The music did not come up to Star Trek standards. Just think of the wonderful music composed by Horner, Goldsmith, and Rosenman. Those scores were classic. Giacchino has to do better if he does the next film. My choice would be Horner again.
Well, I all I can say about star trek film by J.J. Abrams is simple,
CRAP.
I watched all the series from the first original series in the mid 70’s
( I was born just after they started making them so I watched them after they went on uk tv mid 70’s )
All the films were fantastic, all except J.J. Abrams version of trek film 11.
It was total rubbish, the story line was totally nothing like what it should be,
The time line was silly, he is a fool.
J.J. Abrams even said he never bothered to watch any of the many trek series or films? He just did it his way, so all the trek ideas and history was just thrown out?
And as if the story and time lines was not bad as it could be, he then filmed it so badly to it made me feel sick, really sick, all the movie was full with blinding flashing lights super fast blurred views and lots of really sick spinning of the camera views, a couple of small times the camera would stop still and focus on something then it be off again?
Sorry, any film fan could tell that is not the way to show a film story on the cinema or dvd later on?
Ther is a golden rule of film making which dates way back to the first ever films produced?
It is simple, If anyone makes a film even a high action film, you must aways treat the filming camera as a invisable 3rd person who is watching the action as though they are standing still next to the people acting in front of you, you pan slowly between each shot so the viewers of the film are watching it through your eyes?
each moment of that film no matter how fast the action is, we all must see it clearly as though we are standing there ourself’s? and every film and series I ever watched the makers of them made damn sure each moment was filmed like that? We never missed any part of the film because of the image flashing past at warp speed so to speak, or missed anything because the images was spinning around and around like a mad washing machine drum set to highest spin, or have our eye blinded by painful high flashing lights as well?
I was told that most of us long time trek fan like me watched it and hated it totally?
And then I read later on online J.J. Abrams said he would not do the next trek film, star trek 12.
I thought, great get someone who can do a great normally filmed trek film like was done before?
So if what I read here is what I think it say’s that J.J. Abrams is doing star trek 12 film, Then I and I’m sure most true trek fans will not bother watching his next trek film as we already know he will do the same crap again, thinking he knows better than us what a great way to film trek is?
Beam me up please scotty.
