Netflix Trek For Latin America And Perhaps Canada
1 min readCBS Corporation and Netflix, Inc. have announced a two-year, non-exclusive international licensing agreement that will be of interest to Canadian and Latin American Star Trek fans.
In the agreement, certain television shows, including the original series and Star Trek: The Next Generation, will be available for streaming via Netflix to customers in Latin America later this year. It is not yet known if the other Star Trek televised series will be included.
“We are pleased to be partners with Netflix as they rollout their superb service to new markets,” said Armando Nunez, President, CBS Studios International. “This new arrangement—which does not compete with U.S. ratings or Showtime’s domestic subscriber base—underscores the popularity of CBS content around the world, and illustrates yet another meaningful way for us to realize incremental value from our vast library of content.”
The two-year deal with Netflix also includes Canada, but the press release did not say if Star Trek is part of the deal there as well as in Latin America. TrekToday is seeking clarification on the Canadian deal and will let readers know when an answer is received.
Canadian members of Netflix will be able to enjoy the CBS shows beginning in September.
