Shatner To Appear On Yes Network

2 min read

Star Trek‘s William Shatner will be a guest on Yes Network’s CenterStage show this Tuesday where he will speak about his time on Star Trek.

CenterStage is an hour-long one-on-one interview show taped in front of a live studio audience.

While some of the discussion will cover topics familiar to fans of Shatner, others will include stories such as how preparing for Alexander the Great in 1968 helped Shatner play Captain Kirk on Star Trek. “So I played the part of Alexander the Great,” said Shatner. “I had to ride bareback, half naked. Historically, I did some, some research on him and…he had been offered the saddle and he said, ‘No, that’s too, uh, well, weak. That’s too namby-pamby,’ or however you say that in Greek…I believe the Greek for ‘namby pamby’ is ‘Greek stoss.’ Ultimately, he met his fate at the Kush Mountains with other horsemen who did ride with a saddle. They were able to stand up in the stirrups, fire arrows and defeated him for the first time. It was going to be sold as a series as well. It didn’t sell as a series, resulting in my being able to do Star Trek. That whole idea of Alexander and…the soldier philosopher—or the best educated man of his time and all that—informed me about how to play Captain Kirk.”

Shatner will also talk about his youth, including “catching the acting bug” and why he had to be tough in high school.

CenterStage premieres on the YES Network on Tuesday, October 18, at 8 PM ET. The YES network is available throughout New York, Connecticut, and parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania on cable systems, DirecTV, Verizon FiOs, AT&T and U-verse. YES network is available throughout the country on DirecTV, Verizon FiOs, AT&T, U-verse and select cable companies.
