Bana to Play King of Rock and Roll

1 min read

Eric Bana, Star Trek XI’s Romulan Nero, will take on the role of Elvis Presley in Elvis & Nixon.

Elvis & Nixon is the story of a visit by Presley to the White House in 1970, where he met President Richard M. Nixon.

Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, John Adams) is in final negotiations for the role of Nixon. Bana will executive produce through his Pick Up Truck Pictures (Love the Beast) company, as well as take on the role of Elvis.

The 1970 meeting between Elvis and President Nixon was the result of a letter from Elvis to the President, requesting a visit. Elvis wanted to be named a “Federal Agent-at-Large” in the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. “I am Elvis Presley,” wrote Presley, and admire you and have great respect for your office.”

Presley went on to offer his services to his country, saying that “the drug culture, the hippie elements, the SDS, Black Panthers, etc. do not consider me as their enemy or as they call it the establishment.”

In a post-script to his letter, Presley told Nixon that “I believe that you, Sir, were one of the Top Ten Outstanding Men of America Also.”

Presley, who wanted to be an agent in the Bureau of Narcotics of Dangerous Drugs, was addicted to prescription drugs.

No date has yet been set for the start of production on Elvis & Nixon, which will be shot in Shreveport, Louisiana and L.A.

  1. Psst, Nero wasn’t in Nemesis, he was in ST:XI, the reboot… Tom Hardy played the Reman clone of Picard, Shinzon, in Nemesis… Maybe we need a better focus on Star Trek and a little less focus on who Quinto beds???

  2. Web site is called Trek Today and they do not know which movie Bana was in. So sad. Also, the movie is not being shot in Memphis?!?!?

  3. Well when the human is replaced with the no-mistakes robot, then I’m sure it won’t happen. T’Bonz will be flogged no doubt for her heinous crime against Star Trek.

  4. Oops. My bad. I’ve seen both movies of course and they both have Romulans and can I blame it on Romoulan ale?

  5. It’s probably cheaper to film in Shreveport as opposed to Memphis (less built-up perhaps?) and L.A. is where they try to film whenever possible due to $$/proximity.

  6. I’m human. I mixed up the movies. Sometimes I mix up the names of my kids, you know?

I’m a Trek fan dating back to the early 1970s, love all of the movies, but for some reason, my brain wants to assign Nero and Romulans into Nemesis. I would think that my brain would TRY to FORGET Nemesis….whereas I liked the last ST movie.

  7. P.S. I post whatever is newsworthy. It could be something directly related to a Trek production, other times it actor news. One article may appeal to one reader, but not the other.

Quinto’s coming out was legitimate news. Behind the faces, these are human beings and some find their non-Trek stories of interest. If not, the stories are easy to skip.

I post 5x a week and have for 5 years straight. At times, I will make a typo or mix up something. I strive diligently to make my articles not only good, but perfect. Regrettably, at times, I do miss something and make some flub. I will always fix it when I find out because it’s embarrassing to me to make a mistake. I want you guys to get the best articles.

  8. Mike, I think people are just trying to provoke you. Don’t give them the ammunition. Besides, Nero was actually in ST:5, as Spock’s half brother. Not the best of the films by far, but some great gags.
