Urban: After The Disclosure

2 min read

Karl Urban recently explained what happened to him in the aftermath of his Benedict Cumberbatch Star Trek 2 character disclosure.

While being interviewed about his work on Dredd, Urban also spoke about character development and the secrecy surrounding Star Trek 2.

Urban claims that there are good reasons for secrecy when it comes to a highly-anticipated movie. “What’s the point of investing all this time and energy and, you know, money into something, if by the time it gets to the cinema, the audience has read the script and knows all the sort of twists and turns in the movie?” he said. “So I can totally get it and I think that it’s a good way to be. Let’s just save it for the audience.”

But the actor did say what fans can look forward to in Star Trek 2. “I think that everybody’s character gets to continue to develop, and you learn more about them and what makes them tick, and they get tested like they’ve never been tested before,” he said. “And to me, that’s always the great sign of a good Star Trek story. When the relationships between those crew members become strained, and how they would have to find the common ground within each other to overcome this. So yeah, I’m excited for it, we had a great time shooting it.”

And what happened to Urban after the now infamous “disclosure” regarding Cumberbatch? “Ah yes, you know, I received a few phone calls over that one,” he said. “I really – what was the legal term that was explained to me? ‘Not at liberty to discuss Star Trek…'”

  1. Well, I think that tears it….BC is Gary Mitchell! I’m much more excited about the movie now than I was when I thought the villain was Khan.

  2. many ST themes follow the GM storyline. what happens if an ordinary man or child suddenly becomes super powerful. the absolute power corrupts lesson that reveals true human frailty. it is a scary thought.

  3. As much as I would like that to be the case, given K&O and JJ’s history of “Ha! gotcha!”‘s, I will believe it when I see it.

  4. After I saw the shot of Alice eve I knew, they gave her the same hair style of Dr. Elizabeth Dehner.
So cannon is fulfilled. So question is how they end this one. Do they live and get saved?
